Ransom Riggs Novel-Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children Book Review

A Brilliant Writer
Ransom Riggs published his first novel, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children , in June 2011 after writing for Mental_Floss for years. His most famous series on this site is called Talking Pictures in which Riggs catalogues both old and new photographs in a way that tells a story. Another great piece of writing was about Iceland, and when I read this while looking at the beautiful pictures I became totally engrossed, exactly like reading his book. You really don't need all the pictures to go along with his amazing words that draw you in, but the photographs are just as beautiful. Ransom Riggs, you are my hero because of the way you captured me with Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children , and continue to inspire me.
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
This strange novel starts off fairly simple and seemingly ordinary besides some weird stories the grandfather told. Then the grandfather dies and before you can realize it, things have completely changed for Jacob. Suddenly he needs to know more about the odd pictures, stories and letters of his grandfathers and why he felt that his grandfather was murdered. He travels to the island in Wales where his grandfather came from, the place where the stories came from. Jacob didn't really expect to discover what he found there, but he did know deep down there had to be something.
This is not just a mystery story, or a drama, it is peculiar just as the title states but in a good way. There is a little love mixed in with the bizarre happenings but it is so quick, like the ending, just a fleeting minute in the story of only a few days. The only problem with the book was the very end where you are left wondering after a few massive twist and turns it seemed abrupt.
The book starts in modern day but Jacob actually travels back to a crucial time right after his grandfather had left. There was a war going on and bombs were flying into the small town but then he could travel back again to check in with his father. This is only a small inkling into the fiction that amazes me with this book.
